The Path to Salvation

The Reward is Eternal Life

All throughout scripture there is a recurring theme: Change your heart and life. But what exactly does that mean?

Our hearts are sinful by nature. Sin entered this world because of the actions of Adam and Eve. Eve chose to believe Satan's lie and she chose to go against the authority of God. Adam chose to follow her example and by doing so he also chose to disregard God's authority. They both chose to not listen to TRUTH and instead chose to listen to the lie. Because of their choices, all of mankind is now born with a bent towards sin.

You don't have to teach a child to lie, to take from others, or to say MINE! Mine—the original sin and the cause of most (if not all) other sin. I will be in control; I will get what I want; I will do what I want; and I want it so I will have it. Pride. It's all about "I."

Notice what letter intersects pride and sin. The letter "I." Notice also the shape created when pride and sin intersect. It is the shape of a cross.

In the Old Testament, God's very first commandment laid the foundation for all the others. Exodus 20:3 - "You shall have no other gods beside me." Nothing! Not ourselves, not others, not things—NOTHING. The first four commandments all deal with our relationship with God. The rest of the commandments all deal with our relationship with fellow man. Vertical commands: how we relate to God. Horizontal commands: how we relate to our fellow man. When you put a vertical line (|) and a horizontal line (  ) together you once again get the shape of a cross.

In the New Testament, Jesus gives us the Great Commandment. Matthew 22:37-38 - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." Jesus teaches that it requires a change of heart and life to obey the Great Commandment. When our hearts are surrendered and when the sin which pride produces is confessed and repented of, we can then live the second part of the Great Commandment. Matthew 22:39 - "And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."

P.r.I.d.e is what keeps us from obeying God's commandments and surrendering ourselves to His authority. Obedience requires a change of heart and life.

To change your heart and life doesn't mean you take a self-improvement course in an effort to become a better person. We can't do it on our own. No self-effort will ever be enough. The only remedy is the cross. God gave his Son Jesus to take the penalty for our sins. He lived, died, and was raised from the dead so that we might have eternal life.

To change your heart and life means:
  • you understand you are a sinner;
  • you admit you need a Savior;
  • you repent of your sins and seek forgiveness; and
  • you surrender your life to Master Jesus.
It's all about surrendering your life and being willing to follow HIS footpath wherever it leads. Salvation cannot be obtained through good works or by being or becoming a good person. There is only one path to Salvation, and that is through the cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price with His death on the cross. Because of His Grace, salvation is a free gift available to all mankind.

God's amazing gift of Grace can be yours. You don't have to change yourself. When you accept Jesus Christ as God's free gift of Salvation, HE will change your heart and life. HE will free you from the bondage of sin (which leads to eternal death); HE will give you the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus. Faith in Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation. When you follow the path God provided, you can be absolutely assured of your salvation.

Here is how you follow HIS footpath which leads to Salvation:

ADMIT you are a sinner and because of man's sinful nature you deserve eternal separation from God.  Romans 3:23 "All have sinned and are not good enough for God's glory."

ACKNOWLEDGE it is only by His sacrificial Grace that you have been offered the free gift of Salvation.  Romans 5:8 - "But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners."

BELIEVE by faith that God took on human form in the virgin birth of Jesus, and that although He was innocent of any sin, Jesus took on your sin and accepted death on a cross so you could choose eternal life.  John 3:16 - "God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life."

ACCEPT by faith that God provided the final sacrificial lamb and that He raised that Lamb—His Son, Jesus Christ—from the dead.  HE has the ability to save you from a life of sin and eternal death when you believe and call upon Him.  Romans 10:13 - "Anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved."

CONFESS that Jesus is Lord.  Confess your sins and believe by faith that you are indeed saved.  Because of your confession, Christ Jesus through His Spirit now lives in you.  Romans 10:9-10 - "If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved.  We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God.  And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved."

LIVE your new position. You are a child of the King. You are no longer guilty of the sins in your past. You are free from the penalty of sin. You are saved.  Romans 8:1 - "So now, those who are in Christ Jesus are not judged guilty."

If you have never followed God's footpath to salvation, why not do it now?  You simply follow the path. Here is a prayer of confession. Read it. Think about it. If you want to accept Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior, consider sincerely praying this prayer. Make it your own.
Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I acknowledge it is only by Your Grace that Salvation is available to me. I believe You sent your Son Jesus Christ to be born of a virgin. I accept that Jesus died for my sins and that He arose three days later so that I might have eternal life. Lord, I confess to you my sins and I repent of them. Please forgive me by the blood you shed on the cross. Please change my heart and mind. Give me a new way of thinking through your Holy Spirit. With the Spirit's guiding, help me live my life in a way that is pleasing to you. I surrender ALL to you. I will follow you on Your footpath wherever it leads. Thank you, Jesus, for your promise of Salvation. Thank you, Jesus, for giving your life for me.  Amen.
If you've prayed this as your prayer of confession then Hallelujah! By faith, you have accepted God's free gift of Salvation. Praise the LORD!! I John 1:9 - "But if we confess our sins, He will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done." God is a promise keeping God. When He says He will—HE WILL!!

Now what?

REMAIN in Him. Read His Word. Continue to grow. Obey His commands. Continue to surrender your will to His will. Get plugged in to a local church where a body of Believers will encourage you and hold you accountable. Tell others. Do what His Word says. At some point you will want to follow God's instructions on baptism as a symbol of your new faith. Doing all these things is not what brings you salvation because we cannot earn our salvation. You do these things because of your salvation.

RESULT: You have a changed heart and your life changes. You are not who you once were. You have a new way of thinking. Your desire is to follow the Master and not your own selfish pride. You choose to turn from the sinful nature you were born with and instead make decisions which are God-honoring. If you fall, you pick yourself back up and confess your failure. You repent of it and make amends if necessary. Your changed heart produces a changed life.

The only way to salvation is by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. If you have any questions or would like help in any way please contact me. I would love to help you. If you have prayed a prayer of repentance for the first time, please let me know. I would love to pray for you as you begin your own personal journey of:

Still on the fence? Still deciding? Why? What on earth is worth risking your destiny for all of eternity? Don't wait any longer. Do it today while there is still time. A day of accountability IS coming. There IS a heaven and there IS a hell. Eternity IS at stake. Nothing on this temporary earth is worth holding onto at the risk of your eternal soul.

Pride keeps us from wanting to surrender. But while you are deciding understand this: You WILL be a servant or a slave to something. You will either be a servant to Master Jesus—a kind, loving, faithful, generous Savior, OR, you will be a slave to Satan—a conniving, lying thief, and destroyer. There is no middle ground. It IS one or the other.

There are only two paths with two very different end results. The path you choose to take determines your eternal destination. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but the truth is the TRUTH. What would be harsh is for me not to tell you the truth and to stand aside while knowing you were following a path that WILL lead to your destruction.

It is a decision only you can make. Jesus is waiting—but time is of the essence. There is a year, a month, a day, and an hour planned for when accountability WILL happen. No one will escape it. There is coming a day when our lives on this earth will be over and eternity will begin.

Change your heart and life. Do it today. Surrender your will to HIS will. Follow the Path to SalvationThe reward is eternal life. Obedience is a decision you will NEVER regret!

"You Are Free to Go"

The lawsuit is over! By God's great mercy—"You are free to go."

When you live your life Walking by Faith there are times you have to step out on an edge without a safety net to catch you should you fall. We spent twelve years standing at the edge of a precipice. We claimed the promises God gave us through Jane and we hung on to them even though there was no logical reason to do so. We knew we would look like fools if HIS promises didn't prove to be true ... but we believed HIS promises and we hung on anyways.

Every single God-given message Jane spoke proved true. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
  • Psalm 150: When you live your life praising HIM for who HE is, HE gives you the strength to not only survive, but to thrive, even in difficult circumstances.
  • Psalm 140: The Lord protected us and kept us from what was intended for our harm. Every single word of this Psalm proved true. The LORD secured justice.
  • Isaiah 30: "Read the part about wait on the Lord again." For thirteen years we chose to "wait on the LORD," and for thirteen years the LORD was faithful.  HE rose to show us compassion; HE was gracious towards us; and HE has blessed us beyond measure.
  • Psalm 1: Two different paths with two very different results. "This is because..." of the choices we make. "God takes care of His people." HE did just that.
  • Jeremiah 33: The promise of restoration. The enemy's power was broken. God freed us by HIS great power. "You are free to go."
  • Psalm 8: The purpose. To bring Honor and Glory to HIS name. It's ALL about HIM.
The proof our faith in the Sovereign Hand of God wasn't misguided; the proof the miraculous story of Jane was truly God-ordained; the proof we weren't crazy when we stepped out on the edge of the cliff and shared our belief that the lawsuit would never go to trial; and the proof our freedom would come by HIS great power—can only happen AFTER there is solid evidence to confirm it.

The proof came. Faith became sight. After almost thirteen years, the lawsuit ended without a trial and by HIS Great Power we heard the words, "You are free to go."
Isaiah 52: 2–3 - "...you once were a prisoner. Now shake off the dust and stand up...This is what the LORD says: 'You were not sold for a price, so you will be saved without cost.' "
Every single one of HIS messages and HIS promises given to us by Jane E. Wolfe proved true. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

"You are free to go."

ALL Praise, Honor, Glory and Power belong to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you, Father, for Your unfathomable Grace. Thank you, Father, for the gift of Salvation, both now and forevermore.  Thank you, LORD, for fulfilling Your promises. Only YOU are worthy of our Praise Father. Only YOU.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow.  Amen.

Jane's God-Given Words

God-Ordained and Holy Spirit Inspired

All the words Jane spoke led us directly to God's Word. Here is a comprehensive list of all the God-given chapters Jane asked us to read. They are written out in their entirety.

Psalm 8: Purpose

LORD—written in all caps. Yahweh. A name considered too holy to even be spoken out loud. He is the LORD and He is our Lord. He ordained praise as a way to insulate us from those who are HIS foes and those who seek to take things into their own hands. When we keep our focus on who HE is, then we understand life is not about us. It is ALL about Him!
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.  From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him the son of man that you care for him?  You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 150: Praise

Praise Yahweh—the LORD. In all things and at all times—Praise the LORD. His acts of power knows no bounds and He has surpassing greatness. When you are praising the Maker of heaven and earth you understand that HE is in control and you can put your faith and trust in HIM. It's ALL about Him!
Praise the LORD.

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the
        LORD.

Praise the LORD.

 Psalm 140: Protection

A plea to Yahweh—the LORD. LORD, here is the problem. Our faith and our trust is in YOU. YOU avenge. YOU hold accountable. YOU free us. I KNOW that YOU will secure justice. We praise YOUR name. Not only will we "live before you," we can thrive because of who YOU are. It's ALL about Him!
Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.  They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips.          Selah

Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.  Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cord of their net and have set traps for me along my path.          Selah

O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God."  Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.  O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle—do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud.          Selah

Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.  Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.  Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.

I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.  Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.

Isaiah 30: Provision

A long chapter that seemed like Greek to me back in September of '07, but which now makes perfect sense. It condenses down to this: we either try to do things our own way—or—we wait on the LORD to fulfill His plans. If we try to do things our own way—there is punishment. If we open our hands and wait on the LORD—there are blessings. The LORD longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion; He is a God of Justice; and He will direct your path. Blessed are all who wait for Him! It's ALL about Him!
"Woe to the obstinate children," declares the LORD, "to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge. But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame. Egypt's shade will bring you disgrace. Though they have officials in Zoan and their envoys have arrived in Hanes, everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them, who bring neither help nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace."

An oracle concerning the animals of the Negev:

Through a land of hardship and distress, of lions and lionesses, of adders and darting snakes, the envoys carry their riches on donkeys' backs, their treasures on the humps of camels, to that unprofitable nation, to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless. Therefore I call her Rahab the Do-Nothing.

Go now, write it on a tablet for them, inscribe it on a scroll, that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.  These are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD'S instruction. They say to the seers, "See no more visions!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.  Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!"

Therefore, this is what the Holy One of Israel says:

"Because you have rejected this message, relied on oppression and depended on deceit, this sin will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant.  It will break in pieces like pottery, shattered so mercilessly that among its pieces not a fragment will be found for taking coals from a hearth  or scooping water out of a cistern."

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says:

"In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.  You said, 'No, we will flee on horses.'  Therefore you will flee!  You said, 'We will ride off on swift horses.'  Therefore your pursuers will be swift!  A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill."

Yet, the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.  For the LORD is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for him!

O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.  How gracious he will be when you cry for help!  As soon as he hears, he will answer you.  Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them.  Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."  Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, "Away with you!"

He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful.  In that day your cattle will graze in broad meadows.  The oxen and donkeys that work the soil will eat fodder and mash, spread out with fork and shovel.  In the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall, streams of water will flow on every high mountain and every lofty hill.  The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the LORD binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted.

See, the Name of the LORD comes from afar, with burning anger and dense clouds of smoke; his lips are full of wrath, and his tongue is a consuming fire.  His breath is like a rushing torrent, rising up to the neck.  He shakes the nations in the sieve of destruction;    he places in the jaws of the peoples a bit that leads them astray.  And you will sing, as on the night you celebrate a holy festival; your hearts will rejoice as when people go up with flutes to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.  The LORD will cause men to hear his majestic voice and will make them see his arm coming down with raging anger and consuming fire, with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail.  The voice of the LORD will shatter Assyria; with his scepter he will strike them down.  Every stroke the LORD lays on them with his punishing rod will be to the music of tambourines and harps, as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.  Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king.  Its fire pit has been made deep and wide, with an abundance of fire and wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of burning sulfur, sets it ablaze.

Psalm 1: Path

There are two paths and two choices. The path of the wicked—which leads to destruction, OR, His path of righteousness—which leads to blessings. We each get to choose which path we are going to take; HE chooses the consequences. It's ALL about Him!
Happy are those who don't listen to the wicked, who don't go where sinners go, who don't do what evil people do.  They love the LORD's teachings, and they think about those teachings day and night.  They are strong, like a tree planted by the river.  The tree produces fruit in season, and its leaves don't die, everything they do will succeed.

But the wicked are not like that.  they are like chaff that the wind blows away.  So the wicked will not escape God's punishment.  Sinners will not worship with God's people.  This is because the LORD takes care of his people, but the wicked will be destroyed. (NCV)

Jeremiah 33: Promise

The LORD's promise of restoration. Call to Me (the LORD) and I will answer you. You are captive now, but there will come a day when you are freed and your land and fortunes restored. There will come a day when you hear the words, "You are free to go." I will free you. It's ALL about Him!
While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time: This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: 'They will be filled with the dead bodies of the men I will slay in my anger and wrath.  I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.

" 'Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.  I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before.  I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me.  Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.'

"This is what the LORD says: 'You say about this place, "It is a desolate waste, without men or animals."  Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither men nor animals, there will be heard once more the sound of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying,
"Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; His love endures forever."
For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,' says the LORD.

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In this place, desolate and without men or animals—in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.  In the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand of the one who counts them,' says the LORD.

" 'The days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the gracious promise I made to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
" 'In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David's line; he will do what is just and right in the land.  In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety.  This is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.'
For this is what the LORD says: 'David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, nor will the priests, who are Levites, ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offering, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.' "

The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: "This is what the LORD says: 'If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, then my covenant with David my servant—and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me—can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.  I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars of the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.' "

The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: "Have you not noticed that these people are saying, 'The LORD has rejected the two kingdoms he chose'?  So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation.  This is what the LORD says: 'If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed laws of heaven and earth, then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.' "
Every single one of God's promises given to us through the most unlikely of sources—an elderly frail woman in a nursing home with Parkinson's Disease and advanced dementia—came true. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

It's ALL about Him.

Following HIS Footpath

HIS Great Faithfulness

After Jane's death I was given a box of her personal effects. While going through the box, I came across this picture of Jane walking away from the viewer while following a winding stone path. I was immediately drawn to this picture because of all I felt it symbolized: Jane following God on her winding path, and Jane/God leading us on our own winding path. The picture was taken at Mt. Gretna, in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.

In 2019, my husband and I decided to drive out to Pennsylvania to find out more about the area where Jane grew up and the history around where her ancestors lived and were buried. I was curious to find out more about what shaped Jane's life into becoming a woman of such strong convictions and faith. We found the home Jane lived in when she knelt down by her bed to surrender her many accomplishments to the Lord. We found where Jane was baptized in the Swatara Creek. We found the cemetery where many of Jane's family ancestors were buried and, amazingly, we even found the grave sites of her Mother and Father. It was emotionally moving to actually be able to visually see the places and things I read about in Jane's writings. The house where Jane grew up; where she went to school; where she lived as she led the writing campaign for the men in World War II; where she went to church; where she went to college; and the city, surrounding countryside, and mountains that shaped Jane's life as a child and young woman.

But the main reason for our trip to Pennsylvania, was to try and find a needle in a haystack. I wanted to find the path Jane was walking down in the picture I was so drawn to. I was told the picture was taken at Mt. Gretna so that is where we headed, picture in hand, hoping we could find the path.

Mt. Gretna is a very interesting and historical area with several different small and separate boroughs. We stopped at a small four-corner area that had a post office and small eatery. We showed the picture to a local person and asked where the lake was. We thought it looked like there was a lake in the distance of the picture. She agreed that it looked like the lake was in the distance and gave us directions to the lake area. We found the lake and showed the picture to several more locals who each thought it was probably the lake in the background as well ... but no one recognized the path. There was a newer parking and access area to the lake and we all wondered if the path once went through that area, and now no longer existed.

Feeling like the path in the picture of Jane from thirty some years ago was long gone, we left the lake area and decided to drive up the hill to explore the Camp Meeting area of Mt. Gretna. Wow! What an interesting area! There's a large and historical round tabernacle built in 1899 that is still standing. The tabernacle is the center hub and is surrounded by small and very unique summer cottages spanning out row after row in a square around the tabernacle. The cottages were literally just feet from each other with very narrow one-way road passages between the rows of homes that spanned out from the center square. Architecturally they were individually all different and very distinctive; each cottage had a large porch for gathering, visiting, and listening to the events at the tabernacle. From the front the cottages appeared similar to a normal size house, but the depth of each cottage was only about a third of what an average home of that time would have been. We were invited in to tour one of the homes. It was interesting to talk with several of the locals about the fascinating history of the area and imagine what it would have been like in bygone days.

From Jane's writings and stories I heard from Jane's adopted sister, I knew their uncle had a cottage there and Jane had fond memories of going to the Camp Meetings and staying at her uncle's cottage. When going through the box of Jane's belongings, I had found a picture of Jane standing in front of a cottage taken at the same time as the picture of Jane walking down the path. We walked around the area and showed the picture of Jane walking down the path and the picture of what we believed to be her uncle's cottage to several people who owned homes there. We had already found the cottage in the picture, but no one recognized the path. We decided the path of thirty some years ago must truly be gone and our hope of finding the needle in the haystack wasn't going to happen. It was time to give up the dream and the hope of ever finding it.

I was fascinated by the different architecture and narrow road ways. It was a beautiful fall day so we decided to leisurely walk around to explore more of the area. We walked back towards the cottage Jane was standing in front of in the picture, AND THERE IT WAS!! The path!! The path led from Jane's uncle's cottage down to the small four-corner area we first stopped at. The vegetation around the path had changed, but the path of native stone remained the same.

The path!! We found the path! I stood there with tears in my eyes. I was in awe of standing on the same path Jane was on in the picture I was so drawn to. We had given up hope—and then God led us directly to it. We walked up and down the path several times and thanked God once again for giving us the incredible gift of Jane. Jane chose to live her life Walking by Faith.  We are determined to continue Walking On His Footpath no matter where it leads.

I hope our story and Jane's story—which is HIS Story—will encourage you to walk your own path with unwavering faith because of HIS great faithfulness.

Jane's Life Verse: Psalm 32:8 ~ I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.  I will counsel you and watch over you.

Walking by Faith

It's ALL about the Journey

Life really is all about the journey—step by step following HIS scripted plans for your life while Walking by Faith on the narrow and winding path HE has chosen and designed specifically for you. But how exactly does one Walk by Faith?

It all starts with a single step. A life journey of following HIS footpath cannot begin until you take the first step; the first (and most important) step is the choice to follow the path which leads to salvation. Only after you have taken the first step can you begin to follow Jesus' example and successfully Walk by Faith.

But what if your life journey is not the perfect journey you envisioned and is instead a difficult path with steep mountains to climb and deep valleys to cross? Then you have a decision to make. Am I going to try and make my own way? Or, am I going to surrender my will to HIS will and follow HIS footpath no matter where it leads?

Jane made the decision to follow HIS footpath no matter where it led. The loss of her mother, the necessity of giving up her dreams for others, losing her voice and vocation, moving hundreds of miles away from loved ones, living dependent on others, developing Parkinson's, or living alone in a nursing home—Jane was determined to remain a faithful follower of her Savior.  We have made the same decision as well. Even if there are steep mountains to climb and deep valleys to cross—we are determined to follow His footpath no matter where it leads.

Hebrews 12 gives us the blueprint for how to be successful at Walking by Faith.  The following is my June 17, 2013 journal entry for Hebrews 12 from my blog Walking on His Footpath (Following the Master's Lead)

June 17, 2013
So how do you live by faith? You follow Jesus' example, you put one foot in front of the other, and you hold on. Hebrews 12:1 - "So let us run the race that is before us and never give up."
To be successful at living a life of faith you first have to remove anything in your life that would block your relationship to Christ. You must remove any and all sin. You can't be successful if you allow those things to continue in your life. You have to look only to Christ and not to your own abilities or to the abilities of others—only to Christ. He is the One who began our faith and He is the One who helps us to live it out. He is our example.  He suffered death on a cross, but He accepted the humiliation and shame as if it were nothing. "He held on" even while wicked people were doing evil things to Him. Hebrews 12:3 - "So do not get tired and stop trying."
Our struggles and sufferings are against sin. Don't give up. Don't try to avoid the pain. Hebrews 12:7 - "So hold on through your sufferings..." God will change you and grow you, and He will be faithful to His promises. What God puts in our lives or allows in our lives is meant to help us to become more like Him. It isn't easy, and it isn't always fun, but it is meant for our good. Hebrews 12:11 - "It is painful, but later, after we have learned from it, we have peace, because we start living in the right ways."
So be careful how you live. Try to live in peace with all people. You cannot control the actions of others, but you can control yourself. Be careful not to allow sin to creep into your life. Hebrews 12:14 - "Anyone whose life is not holy will never see the Lord." Be careful who you associate with. A "religious unbeliever" can cause many problems for you. Be careful not to get caught by the trap of sexual sin or to believe the lie that wealth is the answer. Eternal rewards are worth far more than any earthly pleasure or short-term pain and discomfort.
Our lives should be different from those around us because we have met Jesus. Hebrews 12:22-24 - "You have come to Mount Zion...you have come to thousands of angels gathered together with joy...you have come to the meeting of God's children...you have come to God...you have come to Jesus...you have come to the sprinkled blood..." So, you really have no excuse.
Be careful! Hebrews 12:25 - "Do not refuse to listen when God speaks." To refuse to listen to Him before you knew Him is bad enough. But to refuse to listen to Him after you have met Him is SO much worse. So hold on...and be thankful. God has prepared a kingdom for us that cannot be shaken. God is in control, and we can trust Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Deuteronomy 31:6 - "I will never leave you.  I will never forget you."
We can be confident in Him because He is trustworthy. Psalm 118:6 - "I will not be afraid, because the Lord is my helper. People can't do anything to me." Hebrews 13:15 - "So through Jesus let us always offer to God our sacrifice of praise, coming from lips that speak His name."
PRAISE—what keeps everything else in perspective. It keeps your heart calm even in the midst of a storm. It keeps your focus on what is important. Praise keeps the
God
Man
relationship in the correct order. It is what allows you to live a life of faith. So hold on. Do good to others. Share the faithfulness of Christ with those you meet. We can be assured that the God of peace will give us every good thing we need so we can do what HE wants.
Hebrews 13:21 - "I pray that God will do in us what pleases him, through Jesus Christ, and to HIM be glory forever and ever. Amen."
It is all about Him. May our lives bring honor and glory to His name.
Amen and Amen.  Jesus never promised that our life journeys would be easy and without difficulties, but He has promised to be with us every step of the way. When the going gets tough, you can lean upon His promises. HE IS FAITHFUL! Don't give up! Continue putting one foot in front of the other—and hold on! It's ALL about the journey!

Hebrews 12:1 - "So let us run the race that is before us and never give up."

A Story to Tell

It's All About HIM

There would be no "Her Name Was Jane" story to share with you if Jane had chosen to live her life self-centered and contrary to God's leading.

Because Jane knelt as a teenager and surrendered her accomplishments, her life, and her will to HIS will—there is a story to tell.

Because Jane had an unwavering desire to serve the Lord even during uncertain and difficult times—there is a story to tell.

Because Jane depended on the Lord and lived her life in obedience to HIS will—there is a story to tell.

Because Jane, even though she was well into her 80's, was still willing to kneel in the privacy of her bathroom to surrender her will to HIS will—there is a story to tell.

Because of God's continued faithfulness to Jane—there is a story to tell.

Oh, how thankful we are that Jane chose to live her life in obedience to God's will. Without Jane's obedience and God's faithfulness there would not have been a Spirit led intersection of our winding paths and we would not have been the recipients of a Blessed Event. Meeting Jane forever changed our lives. I am so grateful for the sixteen months I had the privilege of being in the physical presence of one of God's precious servants and for the treasure trove of her handwritten notes in her journal and Bibles Jane left behind. Jane's legacy lives on and HIS story continues!

Because Jane was faithful—we have a story to tell.

Because of God's continued faithfulness to us—we have a story to tell.

Walking on His Footpath (Following the Master's Lead) is my faith journey of keeping a journal and recording my personal thoughts while reading through the Bible during this crisis period in our lives. The story of how God used Jane, an elderly woman with Parkinson's and advanced dementia, to minister to us and speak HIS words of Purpose, Path, Praise, Promise, Provision, and Protection are woven throughout my journals. Of the 900+ journal entries, almost 250 of them are labeled as referencing the story of Jane. The impact and indelible impression she made on our lives and on the lives of others during the short time we knew her is undeniable. Jane truly was a miracle sent by God to minister to us for such a time as this and for HIS greater purpose.

We are not the victims of difficult circumstances—we are the grateful recipients of a Blessed Event.

Because God was faithful—we have a story to tell.

A Legacy Lives On

HIS Story Continues

The Blessed Event did not end upon Jane's death. HIS Story continues on to this day. The words Jane spoke, the dates in which she spoke them, the life lessons she taught us, and the hand-written messages she left behind—continue to be used by God at amazingly significant times in our lives. God used Jane's spoken words to infuse us with everything we needed to be able to stand strong in the midst of the most difficult of circumstances and the most vicious of lawsuits.

In the years after Jane's passing, my husband and I were both surprised and amazed at how many times there was a direct correlation between what was happening in our current life situations, and the scriptures and/or anniversary dates of Jane's spoken messages. Amazed. There could only be one explanation—God in His great mercy allowed us to see HIS hand at work by using the anniversary dates of when Jane spoke His words of Praise, Promise, Provision and Protection, to reveal His Sovereignty and show us His unending faithfulness.

Jane's legacy and HIS story continues on.

Because of the difficult lawsuit situation we were in, we had to make equally difficult and devastating no-win decisions. Decisions where it appeared we were putting our heads in the mouth of a lion. But after much thought, wise counsel, and seeking God's direction for our lives, difficult decisions were made. We gathered the necessary courage and did what we felt was the right thing, fully understanding the decisions we made could be ruinous for us. Incredibly, what we thought was inevitable or at least had the potential to bring us financial harm, God used to amazingly protect us instead. At first, my husband and I didn't even realize what all had transpired behind the scenes in order for God's protection to happen. Once we began to understand we were humbled; we were overcome with gratitude and appreciation for God's amazing protection.

God's protecting hand freed us from one critical aspect and financial obligation, but the lawsuit filed by my sister and brother-in-law continued on. One morning, as I was reading in Jeremiah, I came to Chapter 33 and in the margins beside the chapter I had written, "Jane told me to read Jeremiah 33 on ________." What? Really? How can that be?!?

I quickly called my husband. "Honey, you aren't going to believe this!!! Guess what day Jane told me to read Jeremiah 33!!"  What?!? God's Hand freed us from the mouth of the lion and we were totally freed from a financial obligation that could have caused us great harm on the one-year anniversary of Jane telling us to read Jeremiah 33—a promise of restoration. Exactly one year to the day of Jane's last God-given promise of restoration, the unexpected and unimaginable happened and we were completely restored. One year to the day. When we finally understood how God did it and when it was done, the significance of all that happened once again took us to our knees.

One year to the day! One year to the day of Jane's last God-given message, we witnessed the Hand of God move in a mighty way and the story of Jane's Spirit-filled legacy and HIS faithfulness continue! We have witnessed many other God-incidences that can only be described as the Hand of God intervening for such a time as this. We are so grateful for HIS faithfulness. Seeing the Hand of God work in such incredible ways has proven to us over and over again that God is indeed in control.

God's mercy and faithfulness is beyond human comprehension. I stand in awe of the great I AM.  Great and Mighty is HE!

After Jane's passing, I was given a priceless gift: Jane's well-worn NIV and KJV Bibles; her hand-written journal; other writings; and a large box of her personal mementos. What a priceless treasure trove of wisdom. I love reading Jane's thoughts in her own handwriting. Reading through her writings is like receiving messages from God all over again. Jane's devotion to her God, and her surrendered life as His servant, left a deep impression and lasting legacy in the lives of all who knew her. The incredible memories she left and life lessons she taught continue to influence our lives and the lives of countless others in the only thing that truly matters: following HIS winding footpath wherever it leads.

A legacy lives on. HIS story continues! Praise the LORD!

The Journey Home

One Last Promise

I can still vividly picture the day.

Jane was sitting with her back to me near the end of the hallway in what I affectionately called her "semi" wheelchair because of its large and looming size. The wheelchair held Jane in a reclining position in order to keep her rigid body securely in place. The nurses had positioned Jane's wheelchair alongside the wall just outside of her room. Jane's head was slumped to the side and she appeared to be sleeping. I went into Jane's room, picked up her Bible and a side chair and carried them out into the hallway. Jane's health wasn't good from the day I met her, but now it was rapidly declining. I knew her time left on this earth was short.

I placed the side chair directly in front of Jane's wheelchair. I sat down and leaned in close.

     "Good morning Jane."
          No response.
"How are you feeling today Jane?"
          No response.

I carried on a one-sided conversation for a few more minutes and then I opened her Bible and began to read to her. Psalm 1. Psalm 8. Psalm 124–126. Psalm 139 and other Psalms. Jane's eyes were closed the entire time. There was no indication she was even aware someone was near or reading to her. Because I felt Jane's days left on this earth were waning, I decided to read Jeremiah 29:11–14 - "I know the plans I have for you...." to her. I wanted Jane to feel comfort and the reassurance of God's plan for her life as she faced her final journey.

I finished reading and slowly started to close her Bible—and then Jane spoke. In a soft but clear voice Jane said, "Jeremiah 33." I was shocked to hear her speak. Jane asked whether I had memorized Psalm 1 in early January and shortly after that had said "precious promise" after I read Psalm 121 to her, but otherwise, there had been no verbal communication since she asked me to read Isaiah 30 in the fall of 2007.

I must admit, my heart was pounding as I opened Jane's Bible back up and turned the pages to Jeremiah 33. Does God have another message for us? I began to read. One last promise! A promise of assurance and restoration! Jeremiah was still locked up in the courtyard of the guard, but God was promising restoration to His people.

We are still locked up. The lawsuit my sister and brother-in-law filed (and our fate) is still "locked up" and pending in the legal court system. Remarkably, God chose to send us one last promise.  A message of hope, assurance and promised restoration. Amazing. I laid Jane's Bible in my lap. I took both her hands in mine and I began to pray. With tears in my eyes, I thanked God for allowing our winding paths to cross. I thanked Him for Jane's life and how He divinely used her words to speak to us. I thanked Him for the privilege of reading His Word to His faithful servant for the past sixteen months. Then I concluded my prayer by asking God to surround Jane with His love, and that like Elisha of old, she would be able to see the angels surrounding her. When I finished praying, Jane tried to pray. Puh ... Puh ... Puh. After many repeated attempts, Jane got out three words. "Puh ... Puh ... Puh ... Praise the LORD."

Everything had come full circle. The first scripture Jane told me to read was Psalm 150—line by line an entire Psalm of praise. And now, after asking me to read a chapter about hope, assurance, and restoration, Jane's last prayer and her last words to me were: "Praise the LORD." Of everything Jane taught us, the most important and the most impactful on our lives was our brand-new understanding of the importance of Praise—the concept of praising the LORD for who He is. Everything else falls into place when we spend our lives first and foremost praising the LORD.

On my way home, I called my husband to tell him what had just happened. Restoration! I also called our daughter. She said, "What if Jane meant for you to read Jeremiah 30 verse 3?"  So, I looked it up. "The days will come when I will bring Israel and Judah back from captivity,' says the LORD.  'I will return them to the land I gave their ancestors, and they will own it!' says the LORD." The exact same message as Jeremiah 33—The Promise of Restoration!

A few hours after I returned home, I received a phone call from someone at the nursing home. Jane was dying ... could I come in? With my heart pounding, I jumped in the car and took off. I called my husband on the way so I could tell him what was happening. I arrived at the nursing home and rushed down the hallway to Jane's room. She was still alive! Jane's POA was already there. She sat on one side of the bed holding one of Jane's hands. I sat on the other side of the bed holding Jane's other hand. Jane was extremely weak, but Jane raised her POA's hand, and she raised my hand, and she slowly moved our hands together over her body. Jane's POA asked her, "Are you trying to bring us together?" Jane nodded her head as if to say—Yes. I knew Jane had a POA but I had never met her. Jane's POA knew someone came to see Jane every week, but had no idea who the person was or the story behind it. We sat on either side of Jane's bed and talked all night.

As we talked, I told her our story and Jane's impact on our lives. With tears in her eyes she said, "Now I know why." She went on to explain that in early 2007, Jane was put under the care of Hospice. This would have been just shortly after I first met Jane. Everyone at the nursing home thought Jane was dying. During the time Jane was in Hospice, she developed a bladder infection and Hospice made the decision to not treat the infection. Jane's POA explained that for some unknown reason, she strongly felt she needed to remove Jane from Hospice so she could be treated for the infection ... and that is what she did. After hearing our story and with tears running down her cheeks she said, "Now I know why."

You have to understand, it would have been so much easier (and understandable) for Jane's POA to have just let the infection go untreated. She shared with me how she had often resented Jane's Pennsylvania family for not taking Jane in. And here this dear lady was, just someone Jane worked with at World Missionary Press, carrying the weight and burden of being Jane's Power of Attorney for years! It would have been so much easier for her to just be done with this "job" and let Jane die. But she knew!  She didn't know why, but she knew she had to do whatever was necessary to allow Jane to live ... and here was the "why" sitting across from her and Jane was bringing our hands together. (I never thought about this before, but imagine from Jane's perspective lying there and being able to listen and witness how God's hand was leading and directing your life even though you were elderly, alone, and in a nursing home. There is one thing I absolutely KNOW!  I am absolutely sure Jane was praising the LORD while listening to us talk.)

The next morning I called Jane's adopted cousin/sister in Pennsylvania to let her know Jane was dying. She immediately made plans to fly out. I picked her up at the airport and she stayed in our home. Jane's adopted sister got to spend several days by Jane's bedside. I'm so grateful Jane lived long enough to get to feel the presence of her family beside her and Jane's adopted sister got to once again see her sister and say the things she wanted to say before Jane passed. When Jane's POA met Jane's sister, her long held resentment towards Jane's PA family vanished. I really enjoyed meeting Jane's sister. What a special time listening to her tell stories of Jane's younger years, their hikes on the Appalachian Trail, and her fond memories of her older sister and mother figure.

Jane lived for one week. Many precious memories were made during that week. I remember one night as Jane's POA and I were standing on one side of the bed and my husband was standing on the other side. Jane kept looking at my husband, then looking upward. She lifted her hand, pointing upward and said, "Up! Up!" It was as if she was seeing a glimpse of heaven and wanted to make sure he saw it as well.  Another time it was just Jane and I alone together in her room. It was late in the afternoon. I decided to sing some of the great and timeless old hymns to her. I was having difficulty remembering all the words so I went in search of a hymnal and found one on the piano in the cafeteria. As I was singing "Great is Thy Faithfulness," I looked over at Jane and her lips were moving in perfect timing while silently "singing":
"Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; Great is thy faithfulness LORD unto me."
Incredible. Jane was too weak to speak but she was moving her lips in perfect timing to "sing" praises to her LORD and Savior.

The night before Jane died, her adopted sister and I were once again both in her room. Her sister was standing at the foot of the bed. I was on the left side of the bed holding Jane's hand. Jane had not responded to anything in several days. I thanked Jane for all she taught me. I told her how much I loved her, and I told her good-bye. And then Jane clearly mouthed the words—"Good-Bye."  I said, "Did you see that? Jane just said 'Good-bye.' " Her sister came to the side of the bed. I told Jane once again how much I loved her and I thanked her again for all she had taught me. I said, "Good-bye, Jane" and once again Jane clearly said the words—"Good-Bye."

Jane's sister's flight left the next morning. We stopped by the nursing home for one last visit on our way to the airport. An oxygen mask now covered Jane's mouth. Her breathing was rapid and shallow. Jane was now in the final active stage of dying. I believe she was in a coma. Jane's sister said her final good-byes. I again told Jane how much I loved her and then we reluctantly left Jane's bedside. The nursing home called just shortly after we arrived at the airport. Jane passed to her eternal home on the morning of 5/6/08, just minutes after her adopted sister and I left her side.

The journey home. Jane was now safely in the arms of the Savior she loved and so faithfully served throughout her entire life. Jane faithfully followed God's winding footpath to its final destination. Her last God-given mission was complete. One last promise was given. ALL for His greater purpose.

You're home, Jane. You're home. Praise the LORD. It was a privilege and honor to walk with you on your final journey to your eternal home.

Jane's Life Verse: Psalm 32:8 - "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye."

Jeremiah 33:3 - "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you mighty and unsearchable things you do not know."

Jane taught me many things in the short time I knew her, but by far the most important thing she taught me was how to live your life in PRAISE to God every day—no matter what your life circumstances may be. She also taught me about availability and the need to surrender our lives to Christ daily. We are never too old or too ill to be used by God. God used Jane's spiritual gifts of encouragement and mercy until the very end. Until our last breath, He can use us to bring honor and glory to Him.

There are no limits to God's amazing Grace and His blessings are boundless when we are available and completely surrendered to Him.

PRAISE the LORD! HE alone is worthy of our PRAISE!
